Monday, September 30 was the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Town Centre students wore orange shirts to promote the important concept of “Every Child Matters”. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day to learn about the history and unique culture Indigenous peoples in Canada, raise awareness of the impacts of residential schools and reflect on the loss of culture and freedom experienced by Indigenous children. Literacy empowers and liberates people. Town Centre students in older grades collaborated to create an age appropriate read aloud for our younger students. Creating a read aloud allows the older students to be positive role models while the younger students are provided an engaging way to understand the significance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
