The Elementary students at TCPS celebrated the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics which commenced on February 4th and concluding with the closing ceremonies taking place on February 20th.
Throughout the month we celebrated Team Canada with different activities and contests. The school created a special Canada Medals display board in the front foyer proudly show the tally of the bronze, silver and gold medals earned for Canada. Canada proudly brought home a total of 26 medals!
Our first theme day on February 11th was Team Canada Day. Elementary students and staff were encouraged to wear a Team Canada jersey, or any clothing item that was red or white to show support for our Canadian athletes.
On February 16th the Elementary classes went for gold in a head-to-head contest to see which class could create the best Olympic themed bulletin board. Students and staff worked together and came up with some very creative displays. Congratulations to grade 3-126 for winning for the best display and earning a special movie day for their class.
We wrapped up our Olympic theme with our annual Winter Carnival on February 18th. The grade 6 classes assisted staff with running the games and earned volunteer hours towards their Service Learning Hours. Held in the Main Gymnasium, and the Amarillo Gymnasium for the grade 1 classes, students could choose from a variety of table carnival games including bean bag toss, Nerf target shooting, bounce-a-ball challenge, igloo slam and mini basketball. Those looking for more active games joined the Team Canada Hockey target shooting or tried out the bobsleigh obstacle course. Before leaving, each student had the chance to write some well wishes to our Canadian athletes and pose for a picture under the Olympics rings! What a great way to end the week!
