Grade 8 Students Hold a Winter Market for Their MYP Community ProjectElementary School NewsTCPS News News TCPS News Pre-School News Elementary School News High School News TCPS students in grades 6-8 participate in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), which aims to create lifelong holistic learners who take pride in their educational journey. Service learning is a key component of the MYP at TCPS, requiring students to engage actively within their communities. This process involves self-discovery, community involvement, and reflection both inside and outside the classroom. Students can volunteer within the school, locally, nationally, or internationally. Service learning activities allow students to give back to their communities while supporting causes they are passionate about. These activities help students develop community awareness, balance various aspects of life, become independent, and gain valuable skills such as personal reflection, resilience, and collaboration. For their MYP Community Project, grade 8 students focused on various local and global issues, incorporating fundraising into their action plans. On February 7th, they hosted a Winter Market, selling baked goods, candies, treats, and handmade arts and crafts. The event raised a total of $3,212.05, with proceeds going to the following charities: SickKids Hospital Children’s Mental Health Ontario Canadian Lung Association UNICEF Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Save the Children Ontario SPCA YWCA Ontario PetSmart Charities NCAA Thank you for your support throughout the Winter Market. We couldn’t have done it without you!
