TCPS High School Arts Programs

Town Centre offers a variety of both curricular and co-curricular opportunities in the Arts.

Students with a passion for music have the opportunity not only to take part in instrumental music classes as part of our program from grades 9 to 12, but may also participate in the school’s Senior Band. The band performs at the annual Arts Night and at the Kiwanis Music Festival each February.

Similarly, students interested in visual arts have the opportunity to study art history and practice their artistic talents in courses ranging from grades 9 to 12. The “Art Club” meets regularly throughout the year to support drama projects and other special events in high school. These students help with set design and construction, and are always on hand to provide their artistic flair to the school’s many projects.

Those with a flair for the dramatic are encouraged to audition for our annual school play and to become involved as either a member of the cast or the crew.

The various House activities and special events, such as our annual Talent Show, give students another outlet to express themselves creatively. At Town Centre, the arts truly are for everyone!

A Great Evening of Entertainment!

May 2nd marked the 5th annual TCPS Arts Night. The high school cast and crew outdid themselves yet again with Tiger Paw Theatre Productions’ performance of Little Women written by Louisa May Alcott. Congratulations to the cast: Hasan A., Stephen A., Sydnie C., Maggie F., Angie I., Janine L., Tshego M., Jaden P., Christie T., Chloe V. and Ryan V.

The students and staff put in numerous rehearsal hours to ensure another wonderful production.  Special thanks to Ms. Simon for preparing the script, Mr. Friedman, Mr. Wijeyesekera, Ms. McDonald and the Art Club for creating the backdrops and the backstage crew: Caitlyn B., Manpreet C., Imaan M., Sneh P., Kerry T., and Garrick W.

The evening’s festivities also included an impressive art display showcasing the artistic talents of the high school students and the Senior Band played a selection of songs during the intermission.  The STRIVE Club held a fundraiser selling doughnuts, water and soft drinks during the matinee.  During the evening performance they held a raffle draw with all kinds of great prizes including gift baskets, Toronto Raptors merchandise and gift cards.

The annual Arts Night is the culmination of many hours of work by dedicated TCPS students and staff. Thank you to all students and staff for their efforts in making the evening an overwhelming success. It was a pleasure to have TCPS alumni in attendance at this year’s Arts Night. Thank you to all students and the play directors for their efforts making this year’s production a great success!

Talent Show

The annual Town Centre Talent Show is consistently a great success.  Students and staff from grades 7 through 12 auditioned the week leading up to the Talent Show with numerous acts performing in the show. We thank the students and staff who participated for their courage and outstanding talent. We are looking forward to the 2020 Talent Show!

Kiwanis

The TCPS Concert Band Ensemble participated in the annual Kiwanis Music Festival.  The most recent competition took place at Sir John A. McDonald Collegiate Institute in Toronto.  The Concert Band Ensemble played a selection titled “Band Fusion”, a piece composed by our own Mr. Daniel Friedman.  TCPS earned the Silver Standard Certificate in their class with a score of 82%.  Congratulations to the participating grades 7 to 12 students and Music teacher Mr. Friedman for their outstanding Kiwanis Music Festival placement!
