Thursday, September 30, 2021, marked the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. At Town Centre Private Schools students from our Pre-School, Elementary and High School Divisions wore orange and learned about the significance of this day. A day honouring the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. In commemoration of this day, an orange sugar maple tree was planted at the front of the school in our student activity council (SAC) yard. High School students in their grade cohorts took turns digging the hole, planting and watering the tree. Afterwards our Elementary students surrounded the newly planted tree with mulch. This day was very meaningful to the students. They appreciated the newly planted tree in the SAC yard and what it represents – a new Town Centre tradition to not only remember, honour, and respect our country’s Indigenous roots and tragic history, but to also be a part of the hope, change and growth in the future of this reconciliation process.
