Each year, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across Canada. Both this day and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30th. Orange Shirt Day is a commemorative event dedicated to raising awareness of the individual, family, and community-level intergenerational impacts caused by residential schools on Canada’s Indigenous population. The concept of “Every Child Matters” highlights the importance of acknowledging these experiences. The day symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem suffered by Indigenous children over generations, while fostering a collective commitment to truth and reconciliation across communities in Canada.
