September 29th marked the 2nd annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Students wore orange shirts to honour the victims and survivors of residential schools. It was a day to listen, reflect and learn about Canada’s past, in hopes of a better future for Indigenous people.
On October 4th, grade 6, 7 and 8 students had a special guest speaker, Karen Chaboyer, an Ojibwa mother and grandmother of two of our own Elementary students. As a child she went to St. Margaret Indian Residential School for 9 years. She shared her story and answered questions from our students. Thank you to Ms. Chaboyer for this educational and informative presentation.
