Following our annual Terry Fox Run, on Friday, September 23rd, the Elementary classes celebrated Spirit Week, September 26th – 29th. This is a special event held each year with elementary students participating in a variety of activities designed to build school spirit and support the Terry Fox Foundation.

The week of specially themed days commenced with “Jersey Monday”.  Students and staff came to school wearing jerseys from their favourite NHL, NFL, NBA, MLS and MLB teams or dawning their favourite sports team colours. It was a great way to kick off Spirit Week!  On Monday our grade 6 to 8 Student Activity Council (SAC) candidates made compelling speeches to their fellow classmates in the hopes of being elected to this year’s SAC.

The fundraiser, Toonie Tuesday for Terry, has become a wonderful tradition at TCPS. Each year, in connection with the annual Terry Fox Run, students collect their toonies to donate and help make a difference for cancer research.  As an added incentive, the class that raised the most was treated to a special computer game period.  Congratulations to the grade 6-150 students.  And thank you to all the students who participated. The Toonie Tuesday drive raised $4,301.90. This amount will be added to the funds raised through the Terry Fox Run which are continuing to come in. Our goal this year is $10,000. Since 2006, TCPS has raised an amazing grand total of $216,017.43 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Thank you to all students and staff for your participation and fundraising efforts!

Tuesday was also “Out of This World” Day.  Students and staff really showed their creativity and dressed in space themed clothing and costumes.

On 90’s Day, Wednesday, September 28th, students went back in time a few decades to the 90’s. Students and staff really got into the spirit and had a great time wearing neon clothing, baggy jeans, big scrunchies and some dressed as a movie or TV character from the time period.  For students in grades 6, 7 and 8, Wednesday was also Student Activity Council election day.

Finally, students and staff were encouraged to wear crazy, colourful and fun hairdos Thursday for Wacky Hair Day. Spirit Week was wrapped up with a special assembly, with everyone enjoying a fun slide show that recapped the amazing activities they enjoyed throughout the week. The assembly concluded with 4 randomly selected students invited to throw a whipped cream pie at TCPS staff members Ms. Jisu Park, Ms. Katherine Exarhakos, Mlle. Devorah De Souza and Mr. John Cabanilla.
