November 10th marks a solemn day at the school with Remembrance Day assemblies. Students in the grades 2 and 3 classes shared their thoughts about what peace means, and how it can be promoted. The grade 4 students wrote poems focusing on and peace and Remembrance Day, while the grade 5 classes wrote letters to soldiers thanking them for their service. Lastly, the grade 6 students reflected on what the world would be like if peace is attained. Some of these messages were shared at the assembly. The students also had the opportunity to watch two brief video presentations about the Highway of Heroes and interviews of veterans who shared their experiences during the war. Following the video presentations, the students and staff stood to observe 1 minute of silence honouring our Canadian veterans and those currently serving in our Armed Forces. The proceeds from this year’s poppy campaign will be donated to the Markham District Veterans Association.
